PDP's Oluyede Withdraws Petition Against Gov Oyebanji

Dr Wole Oluyede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, has officially withdrawn his petition challenging the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Election Petition Tribunal, during its initial sitting in Ado-Ekiti, struck out the petition after Oluyede's counsel, Mr Paul Komolafe, moved the motion for withdrawal before the three-member panel led by Justice Abubakar Idris Kutigi.

The Tribunal's decision was made without opposition from the counsel representing Governor Oyebanji and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Oluyede stated that his withdrawal was influenced by appeals from "important people," including President Bola Tinubu, and emphasized the need for unity in Ekiti and Nigeria.

He acknowledged Oyebanji's gesture of fellowship and expressed a commitment to work together for the upcoming presidential election, highlighting the importance of collaboration for the betterment of Ekiti.
