Bello El-Rufai Thanks Peter Obi for Supporting His Father

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, expressed gratitude to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, for regularly checking on his father during his detention. In a video shared on social media, Bello acknowledged that several prominent opposition politicians, including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, had also reached out, but he specifically appreciated Obi for his consistent inquiries.

Bello reflected on the lesson learned from Obi's kindness, despite having previously been critical of him. He shared insights into his father's activities while in detention, stating that Nasir El-Rufai was using the time to read, study the Quran, and reflect.

Peter Obi had previously criticized the ongoing detention of El-Rufai, labeling it as "political persecution" and advocating for the rule of law. Nasir El-Rufai was taken into custody by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on February 18, 2026, following a period of detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission related to ongoing investigations.
