NSIB Reports Malfunction in Autobrake System in Enugu Crash

On July 23, 2026, at approximately 2:55 p.m., an aircraft with nationality and registration marks 5N-ENR was involved in an accident while operating scheduled passenger flight ENU4264 from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to Oba Akenzua II Airport, Benin, Edo State. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) revealed that the aircraft's autobrake system was not functioning at the time of the incident.

The flight crew had identified this malfunction prior to landing and planned to utilize manual braking. As the aircraft approached Benin, deteriorating weather conditions, including rain and reduced visibility, were reported.

The crew was initially cleared for an Instrument Landing System approach to Runway 23 but opted for an RNAV approach to Runway 05, which was approved. The aircraft touched down at approximately 2:54:49 p.m. but was unable to stop within the available runway distance, overrunning the end of Runway 05 and striking approach-lighting installations and concrete structures, resulting in substantial damage to the aircraft.
