Enugu Community Revokes Banishment of Violence Survivor

The community leadership of Azunkwo Ndeagbor in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State has lifted the banishment of a 34-year-old mother of six, who survived domestic violence, gang rape, and mob torture. This decision followed legal and advocacy efforts by the Women’s Aid Collective (WACOL), which has been advocating for the survivor's protection and access to justice.

The survivor and her family were previously banished by the traditional ruler and President-General after the incident was reported to law enforcement. WACOL announced that the community has formally withdrawn the banishment order in writing and returned the survivor's personal belongings.

Additionally, the Enugu State Police Command has arrested and arraigned six suspects related to the incident. WACOL continues to seek the apprehension of the remaining 18 perpetrators.

The organization is acting as amicus curiae to ensure accountability and legal protection for the survivor and her children, while also commending the Enugu State Government and police for their intervention.
