Van Dijk Calls for Liverpool to Improve After Poor Season

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has urged his teammates to make amends for their "unacceptable" performances during the previous season, where they finished fifth in the Premier League and failed to secure any trophies. The season concluded with the sacking of manager Arne Slot, after Liverpool lost 19 of 56 matches across all competitions, including 12 of 38 league games.

This loss tally was nearly equal to their total losses from the previous three seasons combined. The team also exited the Champions League and FA Cup at the quarter-finals and the League Cup in the fourth round.

Van Dijk emphasized the need for improvement, stating, “Last year was unacceptable. This year we have an opportunity to turn that around.” New manager Andoni Iraola has been appointed to reinstate the high-intensity football style.

Key players such as Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, and Andrew Robertson have left Anfield, while new signings include Victor Munoz, Jeremy Jacquet, and Ronald Araujo. Van Dijk expressed hope for a more successful season and the importance of squad fitness.
