Chelsea to Sign Danny Welbeck on Two-Year Contract

Chelsea is nearing the signing of 35-year-old striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton after he was granted permission to undergo a medical at Stamford Bridge. The veteran forward is expected to sign a two-year contract and join the Chelsea squad in Hong Kong for their pre-season tour next week.

This move is part of new head coach Xabi Alonso's strategy to enhance the team's experience, following a season where Chelsea fielded the youngest team in the Premier League, resulting in a disappointing 10th-place finish and a trophyless campaign. Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali acknowledged the need for a change in the club's recruitment strategy, focusing on acquiring more experienced players.

In addition to Welbeck, Chelsea has made an offer for Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka, who previously played under Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, and discussions are ongoing regarding a potential move for Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson.
