Gov Diri Urges Bayelsa Politicians to Avoid Bitter Politics

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State called on the political class to avoid bitter politics and violence as the 2027 general elections approach. He made this statement during a memorial thanksgiving service honoring his father, Pa Abraham Joseph Michael Diri, at St.

Peter's Anglican Church in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area. Diri praised the synergy among the three arms of government and encouraged politicians to foster brotherhood rather than create divisions.

He referenced the violent and insulting nature of the 2019 gubernatorial elections, particularly the rivalry with Chief David Lyon, and urged politicians to learn from past mistakes. Diri expressed appreciation for Lyon's presence at the church service and highlighted the importance of amicable resolutions in political disagreements.

He commended the collaboration among the state's leadership, including Speaker Rt. Hon.

Abraham Ingobere and Chief Justice Matilda Ayemiey, and called for continued unity to ensure development in Bayelsa State.
