Etsu Nupe Calls for Wealthy Support for the Less Privileged

On Monday, during the annual distribution of Zakat by the Bida Emirate Council, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, called on affluent Nigerians to support the less privileged. He highlighted that targeted welfare interventions are crucial in combating poverty-driven insecurity in Nigeria.

Abubakar noted that rising social vices and criminality are linked to economic hardship and urged the wealthy to act compassionately to bridge the gap between rich and vulnerable communities. He described Zakat as a vital instrument for social welfare and economic empowerment, emphasizing its significance in promoting social justice.

Addressing 120 beneficiaries, he encouraged them to use the financial assistance judiciously for small businesses, education, and health. He also urged the Niger State Zakat and Endowment Board to enhance public awareness about Zakat.

Alhaji Idris Mohammed, Chairman of the Bida Emirate Zakat Committee, reported steady growth in contributions over the past five years, aiming to reach all eligible individuals in Bida Emirate.
