EES Registration Exemptions for 29 Countries Announced

The European government has confirmed that citizens from 29 countries, along with those from Cyprus and Ireland, are exempt from the new Entry/Exit System (EES) registration, which will change how travelers enter the Schengen zone. The EES applies to individuals entering or leaving a state on either a visa-required or visa-exempt short stay, defined as a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period.

The system is designed to track non-European short-stay visitors, meaning that travelers from countries like Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya will be required to undergo a biometric registration process at the border, replacing the traditional passport stamp. This new requirement is particularly significant for African travelers who visit Europe for tourism or family visits.

The EES is set to come into force in the near future, impacting how millions of travelers cross into the Schengen area.
