EU Launches Election Observation Hub for Osun Election

The European Union has activated a Joint Election Observation Hub for the Osun State governorship election as part of its EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) programme. This Hub unites civil society organizations such as Yiaga Africa, the International Press Centre, the Centre for Media and Society, TAF Africa, The Kukah Centre, and the Nigerian Women Trust Fund to provide independent, citizen-centered election observation.

The Hub will coordinate reports from 800 accredited observers across Osun State, monitoring key election aspects including polling opening, voter accreditation, voting, counting, and results collation. It aims to enhance transparency, counter misinformation, and encourage peaceful participation.

Laolu Olawunmi, Governance Adviser at the Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, stated that the initiative reflects the EU's commitment to supporting Nigerian-led efforts in strengthening electoral integrity. The Hub also features an Election ReportPoint for voters to report electoral misconduct via phone or WhatsApp.
