EU Reports Security Incidents in Osun Governorship Election

The European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria Election Observation Hub (EU-SDGN EOH) reported 38 security incidents and 323 cases of electoral offences during the Osun off-cycle governorship election held on Saturday. The preliminary statement, issued at 2:00 pm, indicated that 823 accredited observers monitored 726 polling units across all 30 local government areas.

Of the 2,339,233 registered voters, 1,906,390 (81.50%) had collected their Permanent Voter Cards. The security incidents included 25 cases of thuggery, 12 attacks on electoral officials, and 9 instances of voter intimidation by security personnel.

The Hub recorded various electoral offences, such as 103 cases of vote trading and 85 cases of exposure of ballot papers. Additionally, 608 of the 726 observed polling units had polling officials with a full complement of materials.

Voter turnout was notably high, with women constituting about 59% of the turnout and over 70% among persons with disabilities at designated polling units.
