Timi Frank Demands Release of Sowore from DSS Detention

Timi Frank, the former deputy national public secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has demanded the immediate release of Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC). Frank criticized the Department of State Services (DSS) for detaining Sowore, who is currently remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre following a Federal High Court order.

Frank's statement, made on Tuesday, follows the court's decision on Monday regarding Sowore's bail revocation. He described Sowore's detention as a national disgrace and a danger to democracy, asserting that the activist has committed no offense warranting his arrest.

Frank accused the DSS of politically motivated prosecution aimed at intimidating opposition politicians and civil society groups ahead of the 2027 general elections. He urged the judiciary to remain impartial and resist attempts to suppress political dissent, emphasizing that the freedom of expression is guaranteed by the constitution and should not be criminalized.
