Flourish Sabastine Joins Benfica on Three-Year Deal

Flourish Sabastine, a Nigerian attacker and former Falconets striker, has officially joined Benfica on a free transfer. The announcement was made by the Portuguese club, which is the reigning champion of Portugal.

Sabastine previously played for Fenerbahce, where she helped the team secure the Turkish Women’s Super League title last season, scoring 12 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions. Her contract with Fenerbahce expired at the end of the season, allowing her to move to Benfica, where she has signed a three-year contract that will keep her at the club until 2029.

With this transfer, Sabastine becomes the third Nigerian player at Benfica, joining Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe and Janet Akekoromowei, who was also signed this summer. Sabastine was part of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team at the 2022 FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica, where they reached the quarter-finals.
