Falconets Star Janet Akekoromowei Joins Benfica

Janet Akekoromowei, an 18-year-old forward, is on the verge of completing a long-term transfer to Portuguese champions Benfica. This move marks a significant milestone in her career, especially after overcoming a serious injury that had previously hindered her aspirations of playing in Europe.

Akekoromowei had an impressive 2025 season, earning the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Most Valuable Player award due to her outstanding performances with Bayelsa Queens. Additionally, she was part of Nigeria’s Falconets squad at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup held in Colombia, where she participated in three matches.

Despite her youth, Akekoromowei has already made her mark by breaking into the Super Falcons, Nigeria's senior women's national team, showcasing her potential as one of the country's most promising attacking talents.
