Former INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega's Wife Passes Away

Hadiza Jega, the wife of former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has died. The announcement was made on Sunday, April 5, 2026, through a statement shared on the official social media page of Bayero University Kano, where she was previously the Vice Chancellor.

The statement included the phrase "inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un," expressing submission to Allah's will. Janazah prayers for Hajiya Hadiza Attahiru Jega are set to take place immediately after the Zuhr prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja.

The statement also included prayers for the deceased, asking Allah to grant her eternal repose and forgiveness for her shortcomings, as well as strength and patience for the family during this difficult time. Lamara Garba, the Director of Public Affairs at Bayero University Kano, confirmed her death in a telephone interview.
