Jelani Aliyu Urges ABU Students to Innovate for Nigeria

Jelani Aliyu, the former Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), challenged students at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria to become fearless innovators capable of driving Nigeria's industrial revolution. Speaking at the launch of the university's 'Create Before You Graduate' program, Aliyu encouraged students to prioritize creating solutions and opportunities over merely obtaining academic certificates.

He emphasized the importance of confidence, creativity, and determination in building a society integral to global civilization. Aliyu, who served as NADDC Director-General from 2017 to 2023, stated that university education should equip students with skills to tackle real-life challenges through innovation and entrepreneurship.

He criticized Nigeria's 85 percent dependence on imported manufactured goods, calling it unacceptable given the country's resources. Aliyu asserted that innovation must be driven by Nigerians and highlighted the necessity of massive industrialization and a passion for progress to build a strong economy.
