Odegbami Critiques NFF Elections, Calls for Leadership Change

Segun Odegbami, a former captain of the Super Eagles and 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner, has criticized the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding its planned board elections set for next month in Lafia, Nasarawa State. Odegbami argues that Nigerian football requires a complete change in direction rather than continuing with the current leadership.

He believes it is inappropriate to hold elections without first addressing significant issues affecting football administration in Nigeria. Odegbami questioned the rationale for retaining officials who have not met expectations, particularly highlighting the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He stressed that his concerns are not personal but stem from a desire to restore Nigerian football's glory. The upcoming NFF elective congress will see incumbent president Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau seeking a second four-year term, amidst criticism over recent performances and governance issues.
