Ojikutu Proposes 5% Revenue Contribution for Aviation Safety

John Ojikutu, the former General Secretary of the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative, has proposed to the House of Representatives that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) should contribute five percent of its airport commercial earnings to support aviation safety agencies. In his presentation to the House Committee on Aviation, Ojikutu argued for a comprehensive review of the current sharing formula for the five percent Ticket Sales Charge, Cargo Sales Charge, and Chartered Flights Charge.

He stated that the existing distribution among various aviation agencies does not reflect their operational demands and responsibilities. Ojikutu emphasized that FAAN, which generates substantial revenue from various commercial services, should not be viewed solely as an airport infrastructure manager.

He suggested that the current allocation of the five percent fund should be redistributed, with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) receiving a larger share, increasing its allocation from 22 percent to 40 percent.
