Stakeholders Endorse Nigeria's Diaspora Health Initiative

During the 2026 National Diaspora Day celebration in Abuja, key stakeholders endorsed the Federal Government’s Diaspora Health Impact Initiative (DHII), aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system by leveraging the expertise of Nigerians in the diaspora. Senator Aniekan Bassey, represented by Senator Anthony Yari, emphasized the need for collaboration with healthcare professionals abroad to improve healthcare delivery.

Hon. Chinedu Tochukwu Okere, Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, described the medical diaspora as a valuable asset for transforming the healthcare system through global expertise.

The Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Miriam Morales Palmero, called for deeper cooperation in healthcare and education.

Mr. Amr Taha, Deputy Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nigeria, highlighted the contributions of diaspora communities to national development, while Gautier Mignot, European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, praised the initiative despite challenges like brain drain and inadequate infrastructure.
