Experts Call for Lagos Urban Redevelopment Amid Population Surge

During an event organized by Exclusive Estate, experts discussed the urgent need for urban redevelopment in Lagos as the population continues to rise. Peter Adobamen, chairman of Exclusive Estate, noted that 85% of Lagos residents live on the mainland, with many moving towards areas like Sangotedo due to congestion.

He emphasized the importance of better road networks and the shift in demand towards smaller housing units among younger demographics. Timothy Nubi, director at Central Housing and Sustainable Development, highlighted the high costs associated with obtaining necessary documentation for real estate projects, which he stated hinder construction and development.

He warned that failure to approve projects could lead to illegal and substandard constructions. Nubi also projected that Lagos's population could reach 60 million in the next 25 years, stressing the need for the government to balance development with social issues to avoid displacing low-income residents.
