Experts Advocate Geospatial Intelligence to Combat Kidnappings

Experts have called on the Nigerian government to invest in geospatial intelligence as a means to address the increasing insecurity and kidnappings in the country. During a virtual dialogue organized by Wewenetwork Africa, Prof.

Sundai Adejoh from the Nigerian Defence Academy highlighted that modern security threats require intelligence-driven responses rather than solely relying on conventional military operations. He noted that Nigeria's vast landmass and large population present significant challenges, making geospatial intelligence crucial for identifying, monitoring, and tracking criminal elements in difficult terrains.

Dr. Goddi Jedi Agba emphasized the importance of real-time data analysis in combating emerging security threats, arguing that human intelligence alone is insufficient.

Prof. Dimla Joel Nchinnei described geospatial intelligence as a vital crime prevention tool that can serve as an early warning system.

The experts called for greater capacity building among security agencies and improved inter-agency collaboration to effectively share intelligence. They also advocated for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria's security architecture to address the country's security challenges.
