Nigeria Advocates Intelligence-Led Border Security Measures

The Nigerian government is pushing for intelligence-led border security and resilience, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration among federal agencies, border states, and traditional institutions to address cross-border threats. This was highlighted during a workshop on border security and resilience held in Abuja, attended by General Christoph Musa and Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankol.

They noted that Nigeria's borders, spanning 4,454 kilometers with Benin, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, are vulnerable to transnational crime, irregular migration, and smuggling. The workshop called for proactive measures, including early warning systems and technology-driven surveillance, to enhance border management.

Adamu Adaji, Director General of the National Boundary Commission, stressed the importance of coordinated action among multiple stakeholders. The event concluded with a commitment from stakeholders to strengthen border security and promote economic activities in border communities.
