Senate Urges FG to Intensify Military Action Against Terrorism

On a Tuesday, the Nigerian Senate called on the federal government to intensify military operations against bandits and terrorists across the country. This resolution followed the recent rescue of 39 pupils and seven teachers who were abducted in Orir, Oyo State, and held captive for 56 days.

Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidele sponsored the motion, which was supported by 108 senators, commending President Bola Tinubu for mobilizing military assets for the rescue operation. The Senate emphasized the emotional trauma faced by the victims and their families and called for the prompt payment of statutory benefits to the families of fallen heroes.

Additionally, the Senate rejected a call from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for a United Nations investigation into the abduction, with former Governor Adam Oshiomhole advising against undermining Nigeria's sovereignty. The Senate also paid tribute to the military personnel who sacrificed their lives during the rescue operation.
