Delta Police Address Extrajudicial Killing Incident

Bright Edaf, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, addressed the controversy surrounding an extrajudicial killing during a live interview on a television channel. The incident reportedly occurred on April 26, 2026, when police operatives from the Effurun Area Command acted on intelligence and apprehended 28-year-old Mene Ogidi, who was attempting to deliver a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition.

Following the apprehension, the police officer leading the operation, ASP Nuhu Usman, was found to have violated the Force Order 237 standard operating procedures, resulting in the suspect's death. Edaf expressed difficulty in understanding the officer's actions and stated that the police cannot attribute the problem to spiritual explanations.

The Delta State Police Command is currently undergoing an internal disciplinary process, which has already led to the arrest and transfer of the involved officer to Abuja for further investigation. The police force has reiterated its commitment to not tolerating extrajudicial actions by its personnel.
