Black Market' Sets Record with 51,000 Viewers in Lagos

The Nollywood crime thriller 'Black Market' set a Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening at a single venue, with 51,000 attendees at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos on September 26, 2026. This record was confirmed by Guinness World Records, surpassing the previous record of 43,624 set during the 2015 screening of the Filipino film 'Felix Manalo.' While Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat reported an overall attendance of about 64,000, the Guinness count included only those who completed the screening. 'Black Market' was directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay, who co-wrote the film with Abdul Tijani-Ahmed.

The event was attended by various government officials and Nollywood personalities, including Toke Benson, Lateef Adedimeji, Kunle Remi, Stan Nze, Linda Ejiofor, Gabriel Afolayan, and Kunle Afolayan. This achievement adds to Nigeria's recognition by Guinness World Records, which has previously acknowledged other cultural milestones.
