FAAN Denies Banning Uber and Bolt at Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has refuted claims that it banned Uber, Bolt, and other e-hailing platforms from its airports. This clarification follows reports suggesting that a FAAN-linked taxi service had become the only option for airport car-hire services under the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS).

FAAN stated that the system does not prevent Uber or Bolt from operating, as it is limited to commercial pick-ups within FAAN-managed airport environments. Reports indicated that passengers at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) were unable to access e-hailing services and faced significantly increased taxi fares, with prices rising from N25,000-N35,000 to N55,000-N70,000 for trips to Lekki Phase 2.

However, checks confirmed that e-hailing services were still active around the airport. FAAN also clarified that there is no “FAANTaxi” platform and that ACHRAMS serves as an oversight system for managing car-hire ranks rather than replacing existing e-hailing services.
