Tinubu Government Tightens Civil Servants' Deployment Rules

The Federal Government of Nigeria, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has implemented stricter controls regarding the deployment and redeployment of civil servants. A circular issued by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation on August 24, 2026, with reference number HCSF/3065/V.I/275, mandates that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) must cease the movement of officers from recognized professional pools without prior approval.

This directive is part of the administration's efforts to address concerns about fake government agencies and ghost workers. The circular specifically instructs that officers assigned to MDAs from professional pools must remain in their designated positions unless a review and approval from the relevant authority occurs.

It also reiterates a previous prohibition on internal redeployment of pool officers within MDAs, emphasizing a clearer chain of authority for deployment and supervision of professional officers in the Federal Civil Service.
