Tinubu Orders Forensic Probe into Fake Agency Scandal

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu directed the initiation of a comprehensive forensic investigation into the scandal involving the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. This announcement was made by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, after a Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

Oyedele stated that the investigation aims to examine internal control weaknesses that allowed the creation of fake agencies, with findings indicating the existence of additional fraudulent entities. The President has instructed the Attorney-General of the Federation and relevant agencies to collaborate on addressing the administrative, accounting, and governance aspects of the issue.

Furthermore, the review will extend to the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) to identify potential fake employees linked to these agencies. Oyedele highlighted that N9.495 trillion in subsidy savings and incremental revenue has been allocated for civil servant salaries, stressing the importance of eliminating fake personnel to ensure proper compensation for genuine workers.
