Court Denies Bail to Adeniyi Adeyemi, Grants Lawyer Access

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ruled on a fundamental rights suit filed on behalf of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the detained self-styled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. On Thursday, Justice Obiora Egwuatu ordered the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation to allow Adeyemi access to his lawyers.

However, the court declined to grant his requests for release, bail, and access to medical treatment without first hearing from the respondents. The court mandated the IGP, the police, and the AGF to show cause within 72 hours regarding the remaining reliefs sought by Adeyemi, including his release from custody and bail pending the determination of the suit.

The matter has been adjourned until September 9 for the respondents to present their case. Adeyemi's requests also included access to medical practitioners of his choice and an injunction against police interrogation without his lawyer present.
