Court Denies Adeniyi Adeyemi Bail, Grants Lawyer Access

Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-styled Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), was denied bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday. Justice Obiora Egwuatu ordered that Adeyemi be granted access to his lawyers while he remains in custody.

This ruling followed a fundamental rights suit filed by Adeyemi challenging his detention. Although the court allowed him to consult with legal practitioners of his choice, it did not grant his requests for bail, release, or medical treatment from doctors of his choice at this stage.

The court instructed the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Attorney-General of the Federation to appear and justify Adeyemi's continued detention within 72 hours. The case is set for adjournment on September 9, where the court will consider the responses from the authorities.

Adeyemi has been in police custody since July after a bench warrant was issued for his failure to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge.
