ICPC Recommends Action Against 13 Officials in PFIPC Scandal

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recommended administrative action against 13 federal civil servants involved in the scandal of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), which was confirmed to be non-existent by law. The interim report was submitted to the President on August 6, following a directive for investigation into how the PFIPC accessed government resources without legal backing.

The officials named include Mimi Abu from the Office of the Head of the Federation, Rosemary Achem from the Budget Office, and Patricia Akhigbe from the Ministry of Budget and National Planning. The majority are from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

The ICPC also recommended the prosecution of Adeniyi Adeyemi, who falsely claimed to be the PFIPC's Director-General, on charges including forgery and impersonation. Further investigations into the roles of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance were also suggested, alongside stronger verification mechanisms for government institutions.
