Tinubu Orders Forensic Audit of IPPIS Amid Fraud Claims

On August 29, 2023, President Bola Tinubu ordered a comprehensive forensic audit of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and federal ministries, departments, and agencies in response to revelations of ghost workers, payroll fraud, and the existence of "fake agencies." The audit is to be overseen by Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. This directive followed a resolution by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on August 19, 2023, which considered findings from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The audit aims to identify weaknesses in government control systems and establish the extent of fraud. It will include a review of personnel, payroll, pension, and financial management systems, focusing on IPPIS and related platforms.

The audit will also verify the legal status of federal entities and their access to government resources.
