Dr. Chinonso Egemba Warns Against Fake Black Henna Risks

Dr. Chinonso Egemba, known as Aproko Doctor, has issued a warning regarding the dangers of fake black henna, which can lead to severe skin reactions such as keloids and permanent scarring.

This warning follows numerous social media posts where users shared their adverse experiences linked to the use of fake henna. Dr.

Egemba explained that natural henna, derived from the plant Lawsonia inermis, is generally safe and produces a brownish-reddish-orange tint. However, the commonly used black variant contains paraphenylenediamine (PPD), a chemical found in hair dye products that can trigger allergic reactions.

Symptoms may include intense itching, burning sensations, redness, swelling, and blister formation, which can worsen over time. In severe cases, reactions may lead to permanent skin damage.

Dr. Egemba advises individuals to wash the affected area with soap and water and apply cold compresses for mild reactions, while severe cases may require medical treatment.

He emphasizes the importance of verifying the ingredients in henna products and conducting patch tests to prevent long-term skin damage.
