DSS Rearrests Miyetti Allah Leader After Bail Granted

Bello Bodejo, the leader of Miyetti Allah, was rearrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) after being granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja on July 20, 2023. The bail was set at ₦2 billion due to his ongoing trial for alleged money laundering involving approximately $2.63 million.

Bodejo had been arraigned on July 9, 2023, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on multiple charges, to which he pleaded not guilty. After his lawyers perfected his bail conditions, he was expected to be released.

However, as his family arrived at the EFCC headquarters for his release, DSS officials detained him again, causing distress to his wife, Hajiya Hauwa Bodejo, who reported that his health had deteriorated during his detention. The DSS has not provided an official comment regarding the reasons for Bodejo's re-arrest, and a source within the EFCC confirmed that he had been released from their custody upon the perfection of his bail conditions.
