Fani-Kayode Criticizes Jingir's Anti-Christian Remarks

Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation, condemned Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Jingir for his comments regarding Christians, stating that Jingir expressed no regrets over his remarks advocating for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket. Jingir, who is the Chairman of the Ulama Council of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah, made these comments during a mass wedding ceremony in Kano, which drew criticism for disparaging remarks about Christians.

Fani-Kayode described Jingir's stance as unfortunate and expressed respect for the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, who urged mutual respect between Christians and Muslims. Fani-Kayode claimed to have communicated with four Northern Muslim governors who were appalled by Jingir's comments.

He emphasized the need for respect among all Nigerians, regardless of their faith, and criticized Jingir's assertion that the Maitatsine sect were "Christians in disguise," labeling it a falsehood.
