Presidential Committee Supports Forage Training in Kwara

The Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee has endorsed ongoing training for livestock farmers in Kwara State, emphasizing that improved forage production can mitigate farmer-herder conflicts and bolster the livestock sector. During a capacity-building program in Ilorin, Professor Demo Kalla, a committee member and Director of the TETFUND Centre of Excellence on Food Security at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, highlighted the initiative's goal of equipping farmers with practical skills for forage conservation and sustainable livestock feed production.

The Kwara State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) aims to empower youths, women, and farmers in the livestock value chain. Kalla warned that inadequate feed could exacerbate competition for resources, leading to conflicts.

He described the training as transformative, with potential benefits for participants and the broader livestock economy. Additionally, he welcomed the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, marking a significant focus on Nigeria's livestock economy.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's representative, Mrs. Toyosi Thomas, stated that the government's efforts have eliminated excuses for youth unemployment in the state.
