Kwara State Launches Climate-Smart Agriculture Training
The Kwara State Government has launched a training program aimed at agricultural extension agents and selected farmers, focusing on climate-smart agricultural practices to boost productivity and food security. This initiative was announced by Okanlawon Taiwo, spokesperson for the Kwara State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project, on Wednesday.
The training is conducted in partnership with the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan. Prior to the training, a technical meeting was held to refine implementation strategies for climate-smart agriculture across three project catchment areas.
The program includes establishing demonstration plots, Farmer Field Schools, and enhancing extension service delivery. Shamsideen Aregbe, State Project Coordinator of KWACReSAL, emphasized the importance of knowledgeable extension agents in transferring climate-smart technologies to farmers.
The training aims to equip participants with innovative agricultural technologies to improve crop yields and soil health amidst climate challenges.
