Fasuba Backs Ajayi as Future Sprint Star for Nigeria

Olusoji Fasuba, a former African record holder in the men's 100m, has expressed confidence in Kanyinsola Ajayi, a 21-year-old Nigerian sprinter, to become one of Africa's greatest sprinters. Fasuba, who set a Nigerian 100m record of 9.85 seconds that has stood for 20 years, commended Ajayi's consistent improvement and potential to break records.

Ajayi has already made significant strides, recently defeating Jamaican competitors in various events. The first batch of Team Nigeria athletes has officially arrived in Glasgow, Scotland, ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with track and field events set to begin on July 27.

The athletes are currently in training camps in Aberdeen to prepare for the competition. Fasuba emphasized the importance of pushing boundaries and inspiring future generations of Nigerian athletes, as he also noted the legacy he hopes to build through his daughter, Annabel, who is following in his footsteps.
