Fayose warned against dragging Olubadan into Oyo political row

Traditional leaders and Ibadan groups have told former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose to stop involving the Olubadan in his political disputes with Governor…

Ayodele Fayose, who previously served as Ekiti State's governor, has drawn rebukes from multiple Oyo State organizations. His recent public statements have been criticized by observers for inappropriately pulling Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, into his partisan disagreements.

Both traditional Ibadan leadership and the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) have issued public cautions urging Fayose to keep his factional battles separate from the revered monarchy. According to a CCII statement, Fayose's remarks during a recent public interview were deemed provocative and showed disrespect toward the Olubadan's status.

Kola Olomide, the council's public secretary, called on Fayose to pursue his political contests without involving the paramount ruler in sectarian disagreements. Reports indicate this represents at least the second such admonishment the CCII has directed at the former governor on this particular issue.

Tradditional leader Mogaji Akinsola Olawal Oladoja offered his own critique on Tuesday, characterizing Fayose's recent assaults on Governor Seyi Makinde as indicative of flawed reasoning. Oladoja voiced confusion regarding how Fayose, despite having openly claimed ties to Ibadan and expressed fondness for the city, could mount attacks against a prominent figure in the state.

Fayose has made earlier declarations about his plans to assemble political coalitions against the governor in advance of forthcoming elections. The rebukes illustrate an ongoing rift between Fayose and Oyo's political structure.

According to available information, Fayose has claimed to have received backing from Governor Makinde previously, but has now transformed into a vocal opponent. Community and traditional leadership in Ibadan have signaled their conviction that those engaged in politics must uphold esteem for the monarchy while refraining from embroiling it in present-day partisan controversies.
