Wike: Civil Servants Dislike Me for Blocking Fund Diversion

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), disclosed during a monthly media chat in Abuja that he is unpopular among civil servants because he blocked the diversion of public funds. He explained that civil servants were using funds intended for road construction for frivolous purposes, such as attending conferences in America.

Wike criticized the practice of diverting funds, stating that it undermines the development of infrastructure that would benefit the people. He highlighted that 65 percent of the budget is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while only 30 percent is for capital expenditure, which he believes should be reversed to enhance societal development.

Wike's stance on blocking these diversions has led to his unpopularity among civil servants, as he prioritizes the allocation of funds for road construction over unnecessary expenditures.
