Dei Dei Market Traders Urge Wike to Restore Toilets

Traders and customers at section C of Dei Dei scrap market in Abuja are facing significant challenges due to the demolition of the only toilet facility, which was destroyed by a trader who is constructing six shops on the site. Chief Kenneth Okoye, the market chairman, expressed that the absence of toilet facilities has created an embarrassing and uncomfortable situation for the thousands who visit the market daily.

He highlighted the adverse effects on women, the elderly, and customers, warning of potential health risks such as cholera and other infections due to poor sanitation. Okoye has appealed to the FCT Minister, Barr.

Nyesom Wike, to restore the demolished toilet and provide additional facilities, emphasizing the need for dignity and hygiene in a major market. He praised Wike for his efforts in transforming the FCT and urged the administration to act swiftly to address the sanitation crisis, which he described as a "time bomb" for the market community.
