FCT Minister Wike Plans Apo Traders Relocation by Year-End

On Tuesday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced during a media parley at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja, that the relocation of Apo Traders is set to occur before the end of the year. He stated that infrastructure at the Wasa relocation site has been completed, pending only the finalization of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Wike noted that disagreements among traders’ associations had delayed the process and clarified that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) would maintain regulatory oversight of the facility instead of transferring full ownership through Certificates of Occupancy. He also mentioned ongoing security operations targeting illegal settlements and criminal hideouts, particularly around Karmajiji in the Kukwaba District.

Furthermore, Wike urged residents to regularize land titles acquired through Area Councils, revealing that 5,000 to 6,000 titles have been regularized. He announced plans to redevelop abandoned recreational facilities through public-private partnerships and warned developers of potential revocation of land allocations if development timelines are not met.
