FCT Minister Approves Major Upgrades to General Hospitals

During the 19th FCT Executive Council meeting in Abuja, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), announced the approval for the immediate renovation, rehabilitation, and upgrading of general hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The intervention will include overhauling hospital infrastructure and providing modern medical equipment such as diagnostic tools, X-ray machines, and surgical instruments.

Specifically, for the Utako General Hospital, the FCT Administration has directed the immediate resumption of work to complete the project, equip the facility, and ensure the availability of necessary medical personnel. These measures aim to improve the availability and accessibility of healthcare services for FCT residents.

Additionally, Dr Fasawe noted that the FCT Administration has been meeting its financial obligations to Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) under the territory’s health insurance scheme, which supports healthcare service provision. Plans are also underway to revamp primary and secondary healthcare facilities across the six Area Councils to strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery.
