Girls from FCT Schools Create 700 AI Projects for Community

Secondary school girls from 16 government schools across the Federal Capital Territory developed more than 700 artificial intelligence-powered projects aimed at addressing challenges in healthcare, digital safety, education, civic engagement, and climate resilience. These projects were showcased at the AI for Her Showcase 2026, organized by AfroTechxcel at Model Secondary School, Maitama, Abuja.
The initiative submitted a policy memorandum to the National Information Technology Development Agency and the FCT Secondary Education Board to promote the inclusive and child-safe integration of AI into Nigerian schools. AfroTechxcel’s Founder and Executive Director, Emerald Akhaumere, stated that the program onboarded over 772 girls who completed 8,301 learning activities and made 1,138 quiz attempts, achieving an average performance of 73 percent.
Akhaumere emphasized the importance of context in digital education, asserting that curricula must reflect the realities of Nigerian learners. The projects included solutions focused on digital innovation, such as AI classifiers and WhatsApp community bots.
