FCTA Denies AEDC's Land Grabbing Allegations, Seeks Apology

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through its Department of Development Control, has dismissed allegations made by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) that FCTA officials unlawfully encroached on the C2 Maitama substation. The acting director of the department, Bashir Madaki Sunusi, stated that the claims were false and malicious, aimed at discrediting FCTA personnel.

The department clarified that its officials were responding to a complaint from a lawful land allottee with a valid Certificate of Occupancy, who reported obstruction to access his property. FCTA officials, accompanied by surveyors, visited the site to verify land boundaries and establish beacons, confirming that no electricity infrastructure was tampered with and power supply remained uninterrupted.

FCTA also noted that AEDC officials had invited them for a meeting post-inspection but failed to attend. The department accused AEDC of attempting to blackmail and intimidate its staff through a defamatory public announcement and urged AEDC to pursue any land ownership claims through appropriate legal channels.
