FCTA Launches Basic Life Support Training for Health Workers

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched a four-day Basic Life Support (BLS) training program for health workers from seven hospitals within the territory. This initiative aims to strengthen emergency response and minimize preventable deaths.
The training commenced at the Conference Hall of Asokoro District Hospital and is part of the National Basic Life Support Training Programme approved by the National Council on Health. Participants include health workers from Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse, Gwarinpa, Kuje, Kubwa, and Nyanya hospitals, and the program is certified by the American Heart Association.
Dr Dolapo Fasawe, the Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, emphasized the importance of equipping health workers with essential skills for medical emergencies. The FCTA plans to extend this training to other hospitals and establish Code Blue Teams to ensure timely patient care.
Participants will undergo assessments, and certificates will be awarded to those who meet the standards. Dr Oluseyi Ashaolu, Medical Director of Asokoro District Hospital, noted the training's relevance in preventing avoidable deaths.
