FG Approves 600 Housing Units for Military Personnel

On Wednesday, the Federal Executive Council, led by President Bola Tinubu, approved the direct purchase of 600 units of four-bedroom terrace duplexes at Bristol City Development in Life Camp, Abuja, for members of the Armed Forces. This decision raises the total number of housing units delivered to military personnel to 2,656, part of a five-year federal housing program aiming for 10,000 units.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Rabe Darma, stated that this purchase follows a previous approval of 1,556 units in the Kaduna area. Darma explained that the high costs of federal housing are primarily due to rising construction material prices, asserting that government housing remains heavily subsidized.

For instance, while it may cost the federal government around N18 million to build a house, it is sold to beneficiaries at prices ranging from N8 million to N12 million, depending on location. He also discussed how military housing estates evolve into barracks once handed over to the armed forces.
