FG Distributes Relief Materials to Abia Disaster Victims

On Tuesday, the Federal Government commenced the direct distribution of relief materials to individuals affected by gully erosion and windstorms in Ohafia and Umuahia South Local Government Areas of Abia State. This initiative was carried out in Umuahia by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the Abia State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

The relief materials included bags of beans, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, vegetable oil, iodised salt, detergents, mosquito nets, foam mattresses, and blankets. Mr Innocent Nweze, Acting Head of Operations for NEMA Imo/Abia, stated that the relief was approved by the presidency to help mitigate the victims' losses.

He acknowledged that while the materials could not fully replace what was lost, they would help lessen the disaster's impact. Dr Sunday Jackson, Executive Secretary of SEMA, confirmed that the distribution followed a joint assessment by SEMA and NEMA, which was forwarded to NEMA headquarters for approval.

Mr Ndubuisi Umeado expressed gratitude to the governments and urged President Bola Tinubu to address the ongoing gully erosion issues in the state.
