FG Urges Team Nigeria to Excel at 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Federal Government of Nigeria has charged Team Nigeria to surpass its previous performance at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games during the upcoming 2026 edition in Glasgow. National Sports Commission chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and director general Bukola Olopade traveled to Scotland on a direct presidential mission to ensure the success of Team Nigeria.

This directive was communicated by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, during a send-off ceremony in Abuja, where he emphasized the government's commitment to the athletes and encouraged them to win medals. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, reiterated the objective of achieving excellence in Glasgow.

Team Nigeria, consisting of 72 athletes competing in ten sports, is now settled in the Games Village, with high morale supported by enhanced welfare incentives and presidential backing. The Commission is confident that Team Nigeria will deliver a record-breaking performance.
