FG Initiates Regional Growth Strategy at Edo Retreat

The Federal Government convened a high-level sectoral retreat in Benin City, Edo State, focused on regional growth and development. The retreat, which lasted two days, brought together stakeholders from various sectors, including leadership from seven regional development commissions and representatives from the National Assembly.

The discussions centered on the necessity for these commissions to invest in generating revenue beyond statutory allocations, thereby reducing reliance on government funding. Emphasis was placed on strengthening governance systems and enhancing institutional collaboration to unlock new financing strategies for sustainable development.

A clear consensus emerged on evolving Nigeria's regional development architecture to deliver measurable economic impacts. The retreat concluded with a commitment to implement the National Regional Development Policy (NRDP) 2026-2030, which will serve as a central framework guiding strategic planning and budget execution across commissions.

Engr Abubakar Momoh, the Minister of Regional Development, reiterated the government's pledge to coordinate results-oriented regional growth and emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
